Hi All ,
I took Deugniet to the biggest Show & Shine in Canada this weekend http://www.langleycruise-in.com/ . Met a fellow from Washington state with a custom 190SL . Other than the mag wheels the car looks pretty much stock but look under the hood and you will find a 300HP fuel injected Lexus V8 mated to a Nissan 280ZX 5 speed . Owner claims this 300SL eater will turn the 1/4 mile in 14 seconds and if he could fit larger back tires would probably do it in 13 seconds . Estimated top speed 150 MPH yet the car gets 25 MPG and runs so quiet you can hardly hear the engine , sigh .
I also met another 190SL owner that has been restoring his 190SL since '73 and passed on some club info .

Cheers,
Nick

I wonder what that "mod" did to his resale value?

The owner showed me pictures of the car when he first got it . It was a near basket case . he basically saved it from the scrap yard . so in that sense it has increased in value . The mod was very professional with very little cutting of inner fenders. the polished aluminium V8 glows under a stock hood .
All of the emblems are gold plated so I guess dollars are not an object .
If I can get some pictures , I'll post them .

Considering the estimated 50,000 (€64,000) for the 'barn find' in an earlier thread, $36,500 for this seems very reasonable.

Alan,

The market agrees- I see the car has been sold already.

Hi Everyone! I purchased the 190SL with the 4 cam V8 the instant I saw it for sale. I've always loved the 300SL roadster and this past Sunday was with an acquaintance who has a 300 SL roadster and a Gullwing. If I remember correctly those cars have about 220 hp and most of them have cast iron blocks six cylinders although his roadster actually has the alloy block. I've always thought it would be really fun do you have one of these cars but with more power. I've not yet seen the car but from what I've been told the work was extremely professional and first class. From what I've read the all aluminum V8 weighs barely much more than the cast iron block four cylinder so handling balance should be similar....we'll see! I know the four cam V8 sounds really nice with a decent exhaust.....dare I say it, better than the 300SLs I've seen race at Laguna Seca. If the brakes have not been updated that's a task I will tackle. I see there are many folks here who know a lot about these cars and I'll be asking a lot of questions so a big "thank you" in advance :)

Hi and welcome to the forum,

I'm sure many of us are curious about your car and are anxious for you to share details once you receive it. If you can join us at one of our club events, all the better!

If you haven't yet joined the club, I'd encourage you to do so. It's a small price to pay for the valuable information you'll find here.

There is a "wanted" section where you might want to post your need for a soft top.

Again- welcome!
Steve

PS- We encourage the use of names instead of "handles" to make for a more personal connection.

Hi Steve

Yes, as soon as I get the car I'll be going through it and seeing what's what with the conversion....and I'll post the information. If there are no disc brakes presently I intend to upgrade them. You can only go as fast as you can stop they used to say. Will also put MB wheels on, albeit bigger than 13".

Where do I join the club?

Cheers!

Some of you may recall the Lexus powered car was at the Sonoma convention. I had the opportunity to give it a close look over when installing a starter in the parking lot while everyone else was at the track. It belonged to a gentleman from Washington or Oregon a few years my senior as best I remember.

Walt,

we have a weekly cruise in every Wednesday here in Oregon. There is a 58 that is gray with a engine mod. Is this the one you are speaking of?

Hi All!

So the 190SL V8 arrived yesterday! Yay!

Unfortunately it would not start! :(

The serpentine belt was off and there was no oil on the dipstick and no visible water in the radiator :(((

After some "discussions" Gullwing Motor (who sold me the car) agreed to take the car to one of their shops and get it running. So it looks like they're stepping up and getting the car in running condition as they represented it to me. Fingers crossed!

Turns out the 300SLR silver stripes and what appears to be vents in the body work behind the front wheels is actually just stickers and held in place by adhesives. They are a major PITA to remove though. Took a long time just to get the driver's side clean.

I am not a fan of gold trim and the MB Star in the front and on the rear boot are both gold. Anyone want to trade nice chrome pieces for gold pieces? Or should I just throw it them on Ebay?

Also, I will be replacing the BBS wheels and their 215/60 14" tires with something more period correct appearing. Any interest here or should I put them on Ebay?

I also need a clock...the one in the glovebox door appears incorrect. Suggestions for a replacement?2928829289
