Re: Differing advice on Weber settings

    Francesco,
I don't think that you would be able to get the motor to idle at all if you had the throttle plates closed. I have always tried to keep to normal idling whist adjusting the jets. From...

    Jeff,
The 'flattened' ball (part 77) slides into a rectangular recess in the holder (part 54) and is then turned so that it in line with the holder and will not fall out. Once the needle bearing,...

Re: 123 Ignition: Pre-set or Programmable?

    Good point Walt.

I am now thinking that if the timing is set at 11 degrees BTDC at idle, then the max 27 degrees advance should take it to 38 degrees which was the optimum when I had my car on a...

    123 Ignition: Pre-set or Programmable?

Looking at the advance curve for a standard 123 distributor it appears that the advance starts at 700 rpm with maximum advance at 2600 rpm.

I believe that optimum timing for the 190sl is 38...

I blocked off the brake booster vacuum as you suggested Walt but it made no difference. Maybe it is the distributor as you say. I checked the springs in the advance mechanism and they are both...

Re: Could the camshaft be the culprit?

Andre, it's around 1100. It creeps up to 1500 when the engine warms up so I generally reduce it back to 1100 before taking it on a journey.

Re: engine runs to fast when starts

Correct. The flywheel should be at 0 degrees (TDC). Each link of the chain represents 18 degrees so moving the chain by one link will still mean that the valve timing is out by 8 degrees (BTDC). ...
