    John,
I stand corrected, I had never seen the slotted beauty rings on a 190SL! It is a learn something new day.

    Re: Radiator disaster

$100 would be a real bargain! I had mine recored last year by a very reputable shop. Iirc, his wholesale price for the core was just over $200.

    Re: Delete ashtray altogether?

It is a personal decision, however it will cost you more in labor to properly fill and fair the hole than it will be to do the leather work of covering the wood on top of the ashtray.

    Re: Dashboard Removal ?

Ripping apart is common, ripping together is much less common.
I did a rotisserie restoration on my SL and dash removal and replacement is much easier with the body upside down on the rotisserie.

Re: Throttle shaft control rod bearing?

John, That Walt is one sharp fellow!

EDIT: I just checked mine for slop. It has a little but not much. I would need to run out of projects to do the bearings.
  12. Re: What width tire fits into the trunk recess?

Jeff, A 175R13 fits in mine. A 185R14 does not fit.

    My SL see's daylight

After 3+ years my SL saw daylight and moved under it's own power.

This is a picture from over 2 years ago. This was about a year into the project.

Re: what is the carbie setup in the 190sl ?

As you have surmised, the entire intake manifold, carb, and air filter are not 190SL. I am not knowlegible on SU's but the carb appears to be an SU. Hopefully the head is 190SL.

Alan, Looks like at least the front is a Marker binding (triangular shape) a big step up from the old Bear Trap bindings. The magazine is dated 1961. I was skiing on Marker bindings in 1961.
