Re: Throttle shaft control rod bearing?

John, That Walt is one sharp fellow!

EDIT: I just checked mine for slop. It has a little but not much. I would need to run out of projects to do the bearings.
  2. Re: What width tire fits into the trunk recess?

Jeff, A 175R13 fits in mine. A 185R14 does not fit.

    Re: My SL see's daylight

Thank you all for your responses.

Greg, I do understand the sorting out process, hopefully less than 2 years!

Walt, I liked the colors on Rolf's SL which is how I came to my decision. I am...

    My SL see's daylight

After 3+ years my SL saw daylight and moved under it's own power.

This is a picture from over 2 years ago. This was about a year into the project.

Re: what is the carbie setup in the 190sl ?

As you have surmised, the entire intake manifold, carb, and air filter are not 190SL. I am not knowlegible on SU's but the carb appears to be an SU. Hopefully the head is 190SL.
    You are in for an...

    Re: On the slopes

Alan, Looks like at least the front is a Marker binding (triangular shape) a big step up from the old Bear Trap bindings. The magazine is dated 1961. I was skiing on Marker bindings in 1961.

Re: Any Interest in a European 190SL Event

Paul made a number of good points concerning shipping your car. I have not shipped a car over water however I have friends that have. The first point is special ocean shipping insurance. I have a...

    Re: Lesson Learned

I have not done a test run, however, there is no static leak from the speedometer drive, it clearly needed the seal replaced.

    Lesson Learned

I did not R & R the small seal inside the aluminum casting at the rear of the transmission that contains the speedometer drive when it was on the bench. Sure enough the ATF (a very leaky fluid)...

    Re: Jack point paint colour

I assume that you are asking the color between the inner wheelwell and outer rear quarter where it can't be seen. I can't help you. If you have a rear quarter off I would recommend a good epoxy...

    Re: Jack point paint colour

I do not profess to be an authority in any way on the 190SL painting. The following is what my research and best guess indicated and how I did my 190SL. I assume that you are talking about the...

    Re: Rare vintage 190sl tools

Is it possible that the club could get them and have a loaner program? I had to make both of these tools.
  14. Re: Deck Lid sits proud (higher) of body opening, gasket issue?

Well I am back to the same issue now in final paint. I purchased a repro gasket from Jeff at 190SL Autohaus. What I seem to need is a gasket with dimensions between my old original (too big) and the...

    Results with Bulldog adhesion promoter

    Jim,
I know that this is an old thread. I could not locate a post of your experience with "Bulldog". Their technical info only talks about painting with 2 stage paint. I do not shoot 2 stage but...
  16. Re: anyone running 185 or 195 70 R 14 tires on their 190SL?

    Marc,
Thank you for getting back to me. I plan to follow your lead. I will be on 14 x 6" rims and I have the 25mm roll bar. I need to finish assembly and get it on the road this spring. I apologize...

    Re: Barrett-Jackson Auction Results

    Mark,
Your SL looks fine! Where did you decide to go for your interior?
  18. Re: anyone running 185 or 195 70 R 14 tires on their 190SL?

    Walt,
Thanks for responding. I carried a 175r13 inflated in the past with no issues. As you noted, my 14" rims are 6" wide. I may just get 4 new 14" tires and check to see if one will go in...
  19. Re: anyone running 185 or 195 70 R 14 tires on their 190SL?

    Robby,
Thanks for your response. I was afraid that your statement that you have never found a 14" wheel that fit in the wheel well might be the case. I can paint up a 13" rim and install a tire as a...

    Wow,
Walt mine is not the same in that area. I will have to post a picture. I have a second/spare crossmember and it is the same. Was there a design change at some point?

Re: Time to "wake up" my SL

John and Alan. I must be missing something. Since the rear mount bolts come up from inside the mount when located on the rear cross member there is no access to the bolt head to raise the bolt. Is my...

Thanks for your response. What you suggested is what I have done in the past using bolts from above like the setup on the front mounts. I am guilty of trying to restore the SL as accurately as...

  25. Re: anyone running 185 or 195 70 R 14 tires on their 190SL?

    John,
Thanks for your reply. You are correct except I prepped and am painting up 5 14x6 230SL rims and did want a match if practical.
