    There were no corrositon pits or surface blemishes causing the failure to hold vacuum, just that the Piston had lost its ourward flare and was simply allowing air to pass.

    Apologies gentlemen, I must not have been thinking. A wide Crows Foot did the job, so I now have the booster safely out of the car. Time to strip it down.

    You were both spot on. Sealing the line feeding (73) did stop the stalling. So a removal and rebuild is now an absolute requirements. Many thnaks for the guidence.

    In my unit, the poppet's large face is 5.5 mm below the joining face of the cover.
