Source for Oil filter for 1956 190sl

I hate to admit it, but I have owned my 1956 190sl for 20 years but have always had the service work done by a local shop who specialized in vintage cars and who I trusted. Unfortunately he retired this year so I am going to start doing all my own maintenance. I have searched the forum but I am not find what I need... Can anyone recommend a good source to purchase an oil filter and what filter do you recommend ? My 190sl is a 1956 model (motor number 121921-6501302). From what I see I it may take the "small filter" ? This is not something I want to order on Amazon (unless you can recommend a seller). I have changed the oil many times in many cars. Perhaps I should pull the existing filter and see what is in there ? Any advise will be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I would suggest checking with our sponsors from the "Sponsors" page- a few of them carry what you need. I recommend that you purchase the filter with the seals instead of just the bare filter.

Thank you. I pulled the old filter out and it is a Mahle OX42. I discovered there is certainly a process to getting the old filter down and out of the car. After turning the front tires from side to side I was able to get the steering linkage out of the way enough to drop the filter. They didn't make that an easy process. There is nothing like hot oil running down your arms and dripping from your elbows. Oh well, so far so good. Thank you for everyone's assistance.

I am finding the earlier small filters with no problem, but no filter that comes with a seal kit. Every filter I find with a seal kit is using the later large filter... does anyone know where I can find the seal kit for the 1956 smaller filter, or a part number ? I wonder if I could put something together via the part counter at the local Napa ? Or reuse the existing seals and hope for the best ?

Just a note, you can replace the old filter with a spin-on filter that is easy to change, see the club store (complete with all of the seals that you need).
