I just got the latest Mercedes-Benz Classic magazine. There is an article about Mercedes in the Movies and they list "Das Mädchen Rosemarie" made in 1958. The cover of the DVD (available at www.Amazon.de) has a picture of the actress who plays Rosmarie Nitribitt in a 190SL.

There are other movies I didn't know about with 190SL's including "Race Against Time" (2000) with Eric Roberts and "That Riviera Touch" (1966)

    Paul,

Did the magazine also list "Sunday In New York"? This is a pretty good movie (1963) staring Rod Taylor, Jane Fonda, Cliff Robertson, Robert Culp and Jim Backus. Has some good footage of a 190SL roadster both interior and exterior shots. I am not a Jane Fonda fan but it is worth overlooking her politics to see the 190SL.

    Rosemarie Nitribitt's 190SL

In browsing the German 190SL Club website, I came across some interesting facts:

Norbert Schneider, past president of the German 190-SL Club [http://www.mercedes-benz190sl-club.de/], as a result of some urging, wrote a gripping, factual article on Rosemarie Nitribitt and her 190SL, based on years of research. This article [http://www.mercedes-benz190sl-club.de/Revue_Nitri1.pdf] was published (in German) in the 190SL Revue 1/05, the quarterly publication of the German 190sl Club. The graphic description and pictures are based on information he obtained from the police, others and later Mercedes Benz.

Rosemarie’s 190SL was Black (Schwarz DB040) with a red leather interior (Rotes Leder 1079). The car came off the production line on 14 May 1956 and was delivered to her on 19 May 1956. At the time of delivery it came with an Ivory hardtop (Elfenbein DB608), white walls and a Becker Mexico Radio. The chassis number of the vehicle was 121 040 65 022XX (XX is known, but was not published in the article). It is believed that the car, after several additional owners, was destroyed. Nevertheless, Norbert Schneider promised to keep an eye out to see if the chassis number will be registered in the future, it has not been registered for the past eight years…

So - now you know the rest of the story, as Paul Harvey would say.

If you do a search in our past newsletters, you'll find a story about her that came from an old magazine. I believe this newsletter was in the late 80's. It was a quite interesting article. Besides that it left me off the hook on something to write about that month!!!!!!! :-)

    Hi All

I don't actually own a 190SL, but I've always loved the look of them in old movies. I'm also interested in true crime and have always been intrigued by the unsolved murders of Rosemarie Nitribitt and another Frankfurt call girl, Helga Matura. I collect photographs on both cases and would be very grateful, Rich, if you could please e-mail me the Nitribitt crime scene pictures and any other pictures you may have of Rosemarie or Helga.

    Thank you very much.

    Best regards

    David, from England.

I recall reading in the 190SL Club article that the last time it was seen was in the 1970s in a German scrap yard. Since it has not been registered in the last decade or so, no official record can be located for the car. Which does not mean it is not some where. Just like the James Dean car it just sort of vanished from the public eye. BUT, does not mean it was officially scrapped and turned into beer cans either. (In the case of the Dean car, parts from it are around based on several factors which you all can go and read about....)
