    1955 190sl V8 modification. Need some advice

    Hi there all

First time posting but this is my second mercedes. First one was a 92 sl500

I recently went to Sema in Vegas and saw the most ultimate sl190 I have ever seen.

    http://www.123people.com/ext/frm?ti=...log&wrt_id=262

I spoke to the fella about the conversion and it was close to $500,000

I have recently bought a 55 190 and it needs restoration but I want to put a V8 in it. I know that some of you may not like that idea but I have allways wanted one but I want a V8 in one...please dont be angry

Has any one ever heard of a V8 conversion into a 55 and if so do have any links or ideas of what engine and gearbox combo's were used and were there any modifications?

I dont think I will dump $40k into a 600sl twin turbo and then strip it down just yet but Im quite willing to modify and fabricate a firewall and a few other things to fit a V8

I was considering a Ford 289 Windsor with a 5 speed transmision and upgrade the front suspension.

    Any help would be appreciated

Are you looking for show quality or driver on the grill & star?

Matt ... There has been several 190SL with V8 engines over the years. The one that struck me as an excellent fit was at the Sonoma Convention with a Lexus small V8. It had a Lexus transmission and I am not sure what rear end. It fit well and was a professional installation.

Are you familiar with what model Lexus it came from at all?

If you are going to lump a 190sl, don't do it to a '55. These rarest of the marque have many unique features that will be lost. An e-type might be a better choice - over 75,000 of them were produced.

Car arrived here 2 days ago. After physically looking at it I have decided to keep it original if all the bits are in the boxes it came with.

2 full days on the car had it stripped down, blasted, body work done and all in primer.

Interior was just dropped off to a friend of mine to get redone.

hopefully have it painted over the next week or so.

Need to concentrate on the running gear now. Need to go through the boxes and see whats missing.

Pretty sure Im missing the brake and clutch pedal, the flywheel, left and right door glass and channels, front and rear centre bumpers and god knows what else. Might start a list and throw it up in case someone has something lying around.

Well Im slowly getting all the bits and pieces that I need and today a 1994 LS400 lexus fell into my lap for $600 for the whole car. Very banged up but I just needed the running gear from it.

Jim, do you have anymore pictures of that 190 with the lexus V8 in it or know where it is posted on a forum somewhere?

    Thanks

Keith, How much do you want for the bumper centres?

you can email me at mattwilsonat- tampabay.rr.com

Matt ..... That is the only picture that I have. The owner has to be on the attendee list for the Sonoma Convention but I cannot tell who it is from the list.
