The Winter 2025 issue of the Enthusiast is on its way.

It features the story of how Carl and Terri Ott made the decision to restore the family 190SL. There is also a method to repair the water temperature gauge without spending $400, and a repeat of a smart safety upgrade for your brake lights. Jay & Lynn Morris share a story of their impressive 190SL, and there is a preview of our upcoming convention in Moab, Idaho.

    Saw the issue, fun read.

A while back I helped a friend address some "needs" on his 190 SL. One issue was the non-functioning water temperature gauge. I found this electronic Stewart Warner gauge that fit in the 190 SL gauge hole. I seem to recall some very slight grinding to fit. Certainly not OEM, but for the level of his 190 SL it did the job and accurately. I used a metric to pipe thread adapter for the sending unit. Perhaps an easy solution for the less fussy here.

Looks very straight forward. Replacing the face is the hard part. The Bosch gauge has the same scale as the original, which is critical if you want to replace the face. You could install the Bosch gauge as it comes and not change the face to save some effort.
